A vital element of a successful site is the website traffic. What you are looking for is relevant traffic, not the general kind. You aim to attract the right visitors.

This is not so easily done, but with a few tips and tricks anyone can work it out.

The importance of Relevant Website Traffic

The traffic of your site is an essential part of your marketing strategy. It is driven by pay-per-click ads, social media, search engines, links on other websites, and other marketing methods – which we’ll discuss in a second :).

Several people viewing your website at a time equals website traffic. You can determine whether this traffic is relevant, by taking a look at the analytics report, which will show you the number of people viewing your website, where they came from and how long they stayed on your site.

Important data on the report also pertains to the number of pages they viewed, the amount of time spent on every page and the bounce rate, meaning the one-page visit rate. More engagement, thus more traffic, comes from more time spent on your website.

The right visitors are the ones who keep coming back on your site, and spend more time on it, because of their interest in it. They might tell others about your site, furthermore increasing your traffic.

Relevant website traffic means attracting on your site as many people as possible, who are also interested and benefited by what you do.

How do you get traffic to your website?

There are many theories and a lot of different practices, but the main ideas of getting traffic are pretty simple.

Link building is one of the means to get traffic by ranking high in Google’s search results. In this coaching session, we talk about the right way of doing this: the natural, non-spamy way of building links.

It’s a hard task, true, though it’s not the only one. It’s also true that outreaching links weigh more heavily than any “on-page” efforts, but you can improve your traffic, without building a link, in a number of ways.

The traffic on your website is made up of the segment of people who click on it:

  • They can click on the link to your website by reading emails sent out – such as emails from your e-marketing campaign, emails that your partners send out for you.
  • SEO and search engine factors are also important, as they will bring you organic search traffic.
  • Links on social media networks can direct people to your site. This way, you can post different tweets on different hashtags, social media messages which will boost your engagement, thus your traffic.
  • You can also engage and post on forums, communities
  • You can use videos, slideshows and presentations, in which you can include links that point to your website.

After you get traffic on your website, you should make sure that you get a small percentage of this traffic to do something on your website: purchase one of your products, subscribe to your site, sign up for newsletters, follow you on social media, etc.

The basic idea is to go from gaining traffic to the process of converting (either in customers, leads, email subscribers, followers, you name it).

You should never forget about step 2. It’s great to gain traffic, but a winning strategy is to get more than visitors on your site, that is to get people who will stick with you and want to engage with your company and who are really interested in what you’re doing.
