The importance of skin care is not overrated, since, as most people know, the skin is the largest organ of the body. Most of the time, our skin can tell us if we suffer from a disease or not. Thus, it is extremely important to take care of it, and to begin this process as early as we can.

There are three major categories out there: normal skin type (too many people are lucky to fit in this category), oily skin, and dry skin. Also, the combination type is the most common one.
You may be wondering how you figure out which type you are. It is really easy. Wash your face with your normal skin care product (do not use soap though, because it dries out the skin), and then you wait for 10 minutes and see how your face reacts. If it gets oily, then you have the oily type. It you feel it tightness, it’s dry. If you don’t feel any discomfort whatsoever, you’re lucky – you have a normal skin type. If it’s oily in the T-zone and feel it dry in the other areas, then it’s combination.
Taking care of skin issues
There is also the unfortunate case where you may be struggling with acne prone skin, which requires proper treatment. Basic skin care products may just not do the trick in solving this issue.
Though there are out there some brands that are more specialized then others in this field, keep in mind some brands may work for you and some may not. Some may have sensitive skin, which needs special care and attention.
As years go by, you may notice that the skin can change its type. In your early young years, it can be oily, and later on it can become dry and patchy. It is important to take action and gravitate towards products that suit our skin best, especially as we’re growing older. Nonetheless, we must not neglect taking care of our skin even before teenage years.
The importance of skin care is related to SPF as well
SPF is very important to skin care. SPF means Sun Protection Factor. For example, a SPF of 15 will allow you to stay in the sun 15 times more without burning your skin than you could without protection. UV rays are divided in UVA and UVB rays.
We are most exposed to UVA rays, even when we are not exposed to the sun directly. These rays have the deepest penetration and are responsible for photoaging UVB rays that are the ones that make your skin go red from exposing in the sun, and are also the main cause of skin cancer.
Having an education on skin care and also understanding its importance, can help us have a healthy life. Protecting the outside of our body helps protect the inside. Nowadays, it’s not only about beauty, because beauty comes also, or most of the times from within. Having a good skin though, can boost confidence in ourselves.
