The new AEO/GEO Audit from Squirrly SEO shows you exactly what to fix so AI engines can find and cite your content.
Which raises the obvious next question.
You do the work. How do you know it’s actually paying off?
Introducing AI Visibility
This is where you find out.
AI Visibility tracks real traffic ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and Claude are sending your site — based on your connected Google Analytics.
Cristina takes you through the feature step by step in this video.
Other Tools Are Selling You a Fake Number
A lot of platforms out there promise to track your brand’s “ranking” inside AI answers. Old-school SEO rank tracking, just pointed at ChatGPT instead of Google.
Here’s the problem: that number can’t exist. And there’s research behind it.
This study by Rand Fishkin’s SparkToro involved 600 volunteers who ran 12 different prompts through ChatGPT, Claude, and Google AI, a combined 2,961 times.
The question: if you ask an AI the same thing over and over, do you get the same answer?
The finding: AIs do NOT give consistent lists of brand or product recommendations.
You’d need to ask the exact same question roughly a 100x times before you’d see the same list, in the same order, twice.
There isn’t even a stable keyword to track in the first place. When Fishkin had people write prompts for the exact same intent, the prompts barely resembled each other.
Classic SEO rank tracking works because a fixed keyword returns a checkable position over time. AI doesn’t have a fixed keyword, and it doesn’t have a checkable position.
Fishkin’s own conclusion:
➣ Visibility % across dozens to hundreds of prompts run multiple times is a reasonable metric.
➣ But, any tool that gives a “ranking position in AI” is full of baloney.
➣ AI tools produce such randomized lists of recommendations, and user prompts are so wildly varied that attempting to track rankings of a brand/product for a given topic space or user intent is pointless.
So what other tools are showing you is fake. Unprovable. Don’t waste your money on that.
Florin’s own conclusions:
– there is also a big personalization layer involved in this. So not only you can’t see clear search volumes like you do in usual SEO, if different people run the same prompts they’ll keep getting different results from one another, because the modern AI models take into account your preferences as a user and what they know about you.
– generative is in the name. When you run a classic search engine search, you get a stable list of results, that barely changes during a week. With LLMs, you get a new generation every single time, every single day. Which means it can’t be tracked.
