Good News for WP Ghost Users: 4 New G2 Awards and Version 9.1 Is Here

We’re going to enjoy this one for a minute. Then we’ll get back to work. 😄

If you’re looking for software, there’s a good chance you’ve ended up on G2 at some point. More than 90 million people visit G2 every year to research software and make buying decisions based on real customer reviews.

And every quarter, G2 turns those reviews into a fresh round of badges, recognizing the products that stand out across different categories and customer segments.

So… when 4 new badges land next to WP Ghost, that’s good news worth sharing!

🍂 WP Ghost Earns 4 New Fall 2026 G2 Awards

  1. Easiest To Do Business With – Small-Business: The Easiest Doing Business With product in the Relationship Index earned the highest Ease of Doing Business With rating in its category.
  2. Easiest To Do Business With: Same rating, this time across the whole category, not just the small-business segment.
  3. High Performer – Small-Business: Awarded to products in the High Performer quadrant of the Small-Business Grid® Report (products in this quadrant have high customer Satisfaction scores compared to the rest of the category)
  4. High Performer: The category-wide version of the same distinction.

G2 badges aren’t handed out for having the most users or the biggest budget. Every badge above exists because enough of you took five minutes to say what you think, good or bad, and it moved the needle.

So if you left a review this year: thank you. Genuinely. Whether you’ve been using WP Ghost for years or only recently gave it a try, we appreciate every bit of feedback that helps us make the plugin better.

If you’ve been running WP Ghost for a while and haven’t reviewed it yet, we’d love to hear from you:

Meanwhile, WP Ghost Has Been Busy: Say Hello to 9.1

And we’ve got more good news. WP Ghost 9.1 is here, with some pretty big improvements under the hood and a new feature we’re especially excited about: Ghost Doctor.

Path security, changing paths like /wp-login.php, and everything else bots go looking for by default, has always been the core of what WP Ghost does. Bots don’t guess. They request known paths directly. As you probably know, changing those paths with WP Ghost has been working well for years, and it’s incredibly easy to do.

What’s been harder is knowing whether it’s still working after you switch hosts, add a CDN, or install a caching plugin that basically rewrites your rewrite rules.

That’s the problem 9.1 was built to solve.

Ghost Doctor

The headline feature in 9.1 is Ghost Doctor, a diagnostic layer that looks at your server rules, cache, and theme, tells you in plain language what’s broken, and fixes most of it in one click.

Alongside it, 9.1 also brings:

  • A prioritized Security Check: opens with a scored list, showing highest-impact issues first.
  • A vulnerability scan: checks every installed plugin and theme, active or not, against the open WP Vulnerability database, with severity scores and version-range matching.
  • A frontend check: catches when assets fail to load in the actual browser.
  • Forced 2FA per role: enables you to require two-factor authentication for specific roles, with a guided setup screen after login.

More Improvements in WP Ghost 9.1

A lot of 9.1 is about making the plugin lighter and more predictable under the hood.

Performance

  • Images, fonts and media handled by the plugin are now streamed instead of being loaded in memory, so a large file no longer costs its full size in RAM on every request
  • Changed CSS and JS files are built once and kept on disk, instead of being rebuilt on every visit
  • The saved files are rebuilt on their own when a file or a plugin setting changes, so there is no cache to clear
  • The plugin answers browser and CDN revalidation with 304 Not Modified, without reading or rebuilding the file
  • Every file is sent with a Last-Modified date, so revalidation keeps working with cache plugins that strip ETags

Compatibility

  • Work across LiteSpeed/QUIC.cloud, WooCommerce checkout and payment callbacks, WPML, Polylang, Elementor, and the major cache and security plugins
  • Defender Security’s free edition is now recognized alongside Pro

Fixes

  • CSS and JS are compressed only with what the browser actually accepts, instead of always answering compressed
  • Compressed responses now use gzip, which every browser and CDN reads the same way
  • Static files and the REST API path are now handled correctly when your site is reached on an alias domain
  • LiteSpeed: the QUIC.cloud address list is refreshed on its own and no longer kept forever, so QUIC.cloud keeps working as their addresses change
  • LiteSpeed: the QUIC.cloud addresses are loaded even when the plugin settings have not been saved since LiteSpeed was installed
  • Defender Security: the free edition of the plugin is now recognized, not only the Pro edition
  • Ghost Doctor no longer reports the CSS and JS files as not loading when Text Mapping in CSS and JS files is on and those files are served by WordPress on purpose
  • Ghost Doctor now checks the REST API path the way WordPress answers it, instead of reporting a working REST API as missing
  • Changing the REST API path takes effect when saved, without having to open Settings > Permalinks and save again
  • No longer stops with a fatal error on servers where the getallheaders() function is missing
  • Frontend Check no longer shows the word “undefined” at the end of the results when a path or an asset fails

Thanks for Being Part of This

Badges look good on a landing page. But what they actually represent is your experience with WP Ghost.

We can (and do) test WP Ghost in all kinds of ways. But there’s nothing quite like hearing how it performs for the people relying on it every day.

So, if you’ve been using WP Ghost for a while but haven’t shared your experience yet, we’d love to hear from you. Your review helps other WordPress site owners figure out whether WP Ghost is right for them, and it gives our team another piece of feedback to take into the next update.
